EMERGENCY CARE for the ACCIDENT VICTIM
- Have someone call 911 immediately. Give accurate directions and note road crossings
- ABC: Check the victim's Airway, Breathing, and Circulation
- Do NOT remove the victim's helmet UNLESS the victim is not breathing
- Control bleeding
- Keep the victim warm
- Do NOT move the victim unless immediate danger is present
- Do NOT attempt to rescue a victim that has gone through the ice
APPROACHING A GROOMER
- When approaching a groomer, remember that the groomer can usually not back up, so as
soon as you see a groomer coming toward you, pick a spot to get off the trail so the groomer
can pass.
- When passing a groomer from the rear, wait for the groomer to stop, then pass slowly. If the
groomer continues without stopping while you are behind it, the operator is most likely waiting
for a spot where the trail is wide enough for you to pass. Under NO CIRCUMSTANCES should
you pass a moving groomer. The drag behind the groomer can slide sideways unexpectedly,
especially in corners, and would easily crush your sled (and you). A typical drag weighs 3500-
4000lbs.
